Mobile Palm Panel for Shade and Rain - Will it work? (episode 3.8)
Переглядів 26 тис.20 годин тому
Sun and rain. I need both to survive but too much of either one will wreck my day. To gain some control of the power of the sun and rain I decided to build a primitive mobile panel that I can place where I want it to give me shade and protect outdoor items from the rain. Protect your feet while allowing them to be free with my favorite sandals: Luna Sandals are the original sandals that I've wo...
Stone & Tile Floor for my Primitive Hut (episode 3.7)
Переглядів 51 тис.День тому
Dirt is NOT pleasant to sleep on. A primitive dirt floor is NOT nice in a hut. It took long enough but I finally got so bothered with the dirt floor that I went to work to put in a stone and tile floor. It's still totally primitive but it's so much better. I only wish I had done this sooner. Protect your feet while allowing them to be free with my favorite sandals: Luna Sandals are the original...
Dome Cover for Primitive Kiln - it kind of failed (episode 3.6)
Переглядів 43 тис.14 днів тому
This kiln will be used to fire pottery, make charcoal, and to make quick lime. Without a cover the heat freely escapes. To increase the temperature inside the kiln I was advised to make a cover for the kiln. By primitive means that's easier said than done. A removable kiln cover is rather large and has to be strong enough to withstand movement. It also has to be light enough to physically manag...
Primitive Food Storage under a Rock - will it survive until Winter? (episode 3.5)
Переглядів 56 тис.21 день тому
In the primitive world acquiring food is difficult enough but protecting it from wild creatures and the elements it is also challenging. The natural world is the playing field of a fierce competition for the most important survival resource - food. In this video I explore one possible technique to keep this valuable commodity safe from the wilderness. When venturing into the wilderness keep you...
Discovering my Primitive Artifact 4 Years Later...and a rattlesnake
Переглядів 64 тис.Місяць тому
While exploring areas that have a history of native culture I am always looking for clues to their past existence. Often I find mortar holes which provide evidence that a site was used for the processing of wild food and often for gathering of wild foods too. In this video I revisit the site where I placed a clay pot with pumpkin seeds four years earlier to experience a little of what it may ha...
Friction Fire Challenge in Windy Desert Sand Dunes

Primitive Trick to Get Drinking Water in the Desert
Переглядів 33 тис.Місяць тому
Don't do what I do unless you are in a real survival situation or you are prepared to deal with potential consequences. I have consumed raw wild water in many places and only one time did I ever get a very mild case of diarrhea and that happened in a river that passed through several towns in Mexico. I have consumed water from springs and streams in deserts, mountains and coasts many times with...
R.I.P. my first Adobe Hut is in Ruins
Переглядів 58 тис.2 місяці тому
In 2018 I finished building the first hut. I used it as a shelter for practicing primitive skills for more than three years. It endured a few more years after and proved to me the resilience of a primitive structure but then something happened. My social media links: Instagram @chadzuberofficial Facebook @ChadZAdventure
How to Get Lifesaving Water from an Agave Cactus
Переглядів 1,8 млн2 місяці тому
In the desert water is often the number one survival priority. If there is no river or spring then what can you do to get water? Cactuses retain large amounts of water inside of them but that water is often mixed with toxic compounds that can cause more harm than good if you consume them. But there is a way to get safe drinking water from certain species of cactus. In this video I'll show you h...
Solar Eclipse Friction Fire with Yucca Transport (4.08.2024)
Переглядів 30 тис.2 місяці тому
Solar Eclipse is an excellent time to connect with nature during such an amazing natural phenomenon. Today, as the eclipse was maximizing, I produced an ember by friction fire using the hand drill method with a mule fat spindle on parry nolina stalk. A piece of a dry yucca leaf was used to catch the ember. Pounded palm fiber was used as the tinder bundle. After blowing the ember into flames I u...

For the boleadora to work correctly, hold a ball with your left hand and with the other hand turn the rest from the central knot. When you release you must try to direct the central knot at the target and release both hands, you will see how the ropes unfold. and rotate about the central knot, covering more impact area.

Great work, as always! You could have saved a lot of cordage (and time) by splitting a small portion of the palm fronds apart (without ripping it off) and use that to tie the whole frond on the frame. For reference, check out Primitive Skills, a guy from Vietnam who routinely uses the technique to build roof covers. But that's all after the fact, of course.
